The North School vs The John Roan School

An exciting wire to wire game saw The North School upset the number two, The John Roan School at home this week with a 76-78 win.

Both teams came out firing as baskets were traded quickly at both ends. Jay Parnell for North showed the hot hand early, and for The John Roan School it was Lanre Ayinla and Seun Babalola that carried the scoring load. With the first quarter ending with a 1 point margin it was clear to be a close one.

In the second half, John Roan battled back with furious attacks to the basket and hot shooting in spurts, but the North school wouldn’t shy away as they piled in shot after shot of their own from several spots on the floor. After some controversial calls in the 4th for both teams, the dying seconds saw John Roan up 1 point after a made basket and free throw From James Aboaba. With two seconds left it came down to a fade away three from North’s Kai Potts who had been shooting well all half that sealed the game and ended The John Roan School’s undefeated home streak.

Coach Courtney said this after the game ,“Credit to the North school, they shot the ball tremendously and applied pressure when needed. Our boys were a step slow today and didn’t take advantage of easy opportunities to score early enough.

James Aboaba also shared his thoughts stating, “We struggled to get in to our offensive flow which lead to us to chasing the lead throughout the game. However within the fourth quarter we played excellent defence and got stops that put us up. Unfortunately after a half court heave by one of the north school players we failed to secure the win”.

John Roan go on to play Northfleet in their next match and North school go on to play Leyton sixth form.
