Stoke on Trent College vs Aston Manor Academy

Stoke-on-Trent College hosted Aston Manor Academy on Wednesday afternoon, seeing the two remaining undefeated teams in the Central Conference face off to see who could improve to 5-0 on the season so far. The visitors grabbed a 63-68 win, continuing their unbeaten run and handing Stoke their first loss of the 2018/19 campaign.

The game was closely fought, with a number of lead changes throughout the ball game. Aston Manor got out to an early 5-14 lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter, but Stoke rallied to win the period by a score of 22-18.

The game was influenced heavily by the rebound battle, with both teams grabbing a total of 38 boards. Aston Manor were lead by Mo Abushego with a total of 20 points, while Conroy Hayden grabbed 16 rebounds in the game. Stoke were led by Michael Jara’s 20 points and 8 assists, closely followed by Bayley Gaunt who added 18 points.

Stoke Coach Shawn Jamison had this to say about the game, “I am disappointed that we did not get the win today. We had a good spurts of play, but we need to improve our execution and must cut down on unnecessary turnovers.”

Stoke will look to bounce back next week against County Upper School, while Aston Manor aim to stay perfect as they face Nottingham Academy.
