St Thomas the Apostle College vs VI6 Colchester Colleges

St Thomas the Apostle College finished the first half of the season in dramatic fashion, coming away with an 82-79 win in overtime against VI6 Colchester Colleges after STAC forward Moses Gordon nailed the game-winning triple..

After a slow start to the season, STAC have managed to pick up wins despite injuries and absences from their squad, whilst Colchester had slumped to three straight losses and hoped to rectify their woes with a road win.

Colchester started brightly as they dominated the first quarter by hitting eight three-pointers, led by Josh Green’s five made triples, catapulting the visitors to a 19-32 lead.

STAC continued to be aggressive and were led by Rawle Allicock, one of the most prolific scorers thus far this campaign, as he exploded for a game-high 31 points. The hosts got support on the offensive end from Michael Asaolu’s 20 points, while Reuben Adeniran added 16.

With Colchester still holding an eight point lead going into the fourth quarter, STAC clawed their way back with a great defensive effort, while also hitting some key shots to force overtime.

The extra period was a very tight affair, coming down to key moments of excellence or costly mistakes that separated the evenly matched teams. Dylan Beaird had a huge influence throughout the game for Colchester, pacing his sqiad with 25 points, only to foul out in the crucial overtime period.

In the end it came down to one excellent shot – a game-winning three with 3.4 seconds left knocked down Moses Gordon, claiming a big win for the hosts.

STAC resume play in the ABL Eastern Conference with a stern test on the road at undefeated Haringey Sixth Form College in the New Year, whilst Colchester will hope to make amends against The North School in their first game back after the Christmas break.
