Queen Ethelburga’s 95 v 61 Aston Manor Academy

Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate continued their strong start to this years ABL campaign with a hard-fought win over an exciting young Aston Manor Academy with the final score reading 95 – 61 to the hosts.

The first half would make the difference between the two sides with the visitors taking time to adjust to QE’s pace defensively as the hosts leading 53-30 at the break.

The second half was more much closely contested with Aston Manor’s players growing in confidence with every possession, but the gap created in the first half proved to be too much to overcome as QE ran out eventual winners.

“I have an incredible amount of respect for the coaching staff at Aston Manor” said QE coach Josh Metcalf. “Every time we meet their teams are well disciplined, tough, and hard-working kids and the group they graduated last year is a testament to all the great things happening over there. Curtis obviously has a very young group this year and I think they are going to be a fantastic team in years to come in the ABL”.

QE were led by their exciting young back court of Elijah Walsh and Latrell Davis who added 32 and 18 points respectively while Aston Manor’s Sistus Anochie showed why he will be a forced to be reckoned with in the ABL in the coming years, finishing with 18 points.

Queen Ethelburga’s will host last season’s ABL North winners Archbishop Beck next Wednesday while Aston Manor travel to Loughborough College.
