Nottingham Academy 80 v 78 Stoke-on-Trent College

Nottingham Academy Cats continue to claw their way through the season as they beat Stoke on Trent College 80-78, making them 4-0 in the Northern conference.

In an absolute nail biter the lead swung both ways several times throughout the game. It appeared Stokes size would be too much for Nottingham to cope with, however their tremendous defensive pressure lead by Abdul Chitulu and Sami Bieeu would wear Stoke down over the course of the game. The final turning of the tide came with a Brennan Geoghan steal and thunderous break away jam, causing the 200 plus pupils, staff and parents in attendance to erupt.

Nottingham coach Kieran Wright said: “This was the fourth win in a row where the boys really showed their ‘edge’! I’m extremely proud of what they’ve been able to do in such a short space of time. Today Paul Kwarteng proved that sheer effort and desire can cause difficulties for anyone, no matter how undersized one may be! This only raises the level expectation for what is to come from this group.

“Credit to Stoke and Coach Jamison as they fought until the final buzzer.”

B. Grant and A. Tew lead Stoke in scoring but it was Brennan Geoghan with 18 and Sami Bieuu with 15 who lead Nottingham home to the victory.

Stoke take on City of Leeds in their next fixture while Nottingham will host Cheshire where
they look to continue their unbeaten run in front of a packed house at the Wildcats Arena.
