Nottingham Academy 97-100 Queen Ethelburga’s

Nottingham Academy couldn’t finish off Queen Ethelburga on Wednesday after taking a convincing lead in the game. Q.E clawed their way back taking the win 97-100, in what may have been the game of the year. Both teams boasted a winning record as they clashed for the first time this season in front of the incredibly rowdy Nottingham Academy fan base.

The match up definitely lived up to the hype, with Elijah Walsh and Latrell Davis leading Q.E, however Sami Bieeu, Cyon James and Jackson Bisungu put on a show for the home crowd with three monster poster dunks that went viral!

Coach Wright said: “After this game had been postponed last time, myself and the boys were really looking forward to the fixture! We wanted test ourselves against this level of competition and for three quarters I thought we were going to come away with the victory. Those tight games are where you see what people are really about and we didn’t have that extra bit of juice. other than the last quarter, that is probably the best basketball we have played all year so I am pleased with that, however we need to continue to grow as we didn’t manage to get the result.”

“All credit to Coach Metcalf and his boys for a fantastic show of resilience! They came into an environment that isn’t easy to play in, as our home crowd can really get into peoples heads, but they showed toughness and managed to fight back against all the odds.”

Both teams have a tight schedule with plenty of rearranged fixtures to be played before the playoffs. One of those fixtures will see these two heavyweight teams meeting once more at Q.E.
