Northfleet Technology College vs John Roan School

John Roan picked up a win on the road, beating Northfleet 85-70 on Wednesday afternoon.

An up and down first quarter saw both teams score some easy baskets in transition. Despite a scoring burst to start the game from Northfleet, John Roan led by three at the end of the first quarter thanks to a buzzer beater from Jordan Ilori. A high scoring second quarter 21-25 in favour of John Roan saw them extend their lead to 7 points but a poor third quarter from NTC resulted in John Roan taking a commanding 15-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Despite forcing John Roan to turn the ball over on several occasions in the third and fourth, Northfleet were not able to capitalize, spurning opportunities around the basket and at the free throw line. A mini run from Northfleet’s bench in the final 5 minutes forced John Roan to bring their starters back in to secure a comfortable win. Evan Longman led the hosts with 15 while Temitayo Fatusin and Tyrese Tay added 12 each. John Roan were led by Seal Osajivbe with 26 points and Lanre Ayinla added 18 for the visitors.

Coach Dunne commented, “Overall a poor result for us despite several positive moments throughout the game. We struggled initially with the physicality of the game but eventually fought well on the boards. The loss was due to culmination of minor errors throughout, poor decisions in transition and missed free throws.”

Northfleet have a week off before hosting Leyton Sixth-Form College in two weeks-time, while John Roan will host Havering in the next round of ABL fixtures.
