Mayfield School 73-63 Long Road Sixth Form

Mayfield basketball academy returned to winning ways after beating Long Road 73-63

Mayfield started the game well with high tempo on defence and offence which saw them take a lead 20-8 after the 1st quarter. Roles reversed in the 2nd quarter as Long Road settled into the game. T Chawira was causing Mayfield trouble with end to end rebounding and constant attacks to the basket. Long Road caused Mayfield to go scoreless in the final 5 minutes of the half, and bought the game within 3. Mayfield leading 30-27.

After the break both teams came out firing with both team having their best quarter offensively, Mayfield were able to extend their lead ever so slight to end the 3rd 54-47. The 4th Quarter saw a take over from Mayfield forward Jeremy Jacobs which helped Mayfield push over the finish line and get the win 73-63.

“We started well today but just could not maintain the rhythm, we are still on a search for that 40 minute performance. We did not box out well enough and allowed T Chawira and K Holmes to beat us on the boards. We still got the job done and I’m proud of the guys for that, when you’re not performing at your best, it is great when the team can pull together and just grind out the win. Credit to captain Jeremy Jacobs as well for carrying the team through at the end.”
