Mayfield School 69-72 Havering Sixth Form

Mayfield basketball academy suffered their first home defeat after losing 72-69 to Havering Sixth Form.

Mayfield began the game with a lot of energy getting good offensive rhythm but this was quickly shut down by a sharpshooting Havering with 4 three pointers in the opening quarter. Although Mayfield would try to respond in the 2nd quarter this did not stop an offensive onslaught by the away team scoring 25 points to finish the half. Mayfield losing 33-43.

Half time could not come sooner for the Mayfield Academy and although a few changes were made, Havering were already in rhythm, the third quarter saw a tightly fought battle on the boards but Mayfield still struggled to put the ball in the hoop. Going into the fourth Mayfield were down by 11 and although having their most successful quarter, it was all a little too late as Havering came out winners 72-69.

Coach Donnie said after the game “This loss is all on us, we had 95 field goal attempts and were only able to convert 26 of those. This is not good enough, I understand every team has their good days and bad days but that is not an excuse, if you get that many chances at the ring you have to win. Credit to Havering as they delivered one hell of a performance, converting 29/63 of their field goal attempts, which included a massive 11 three pointers. I am disappointed in our loss but humble in defeat and we have to go into the Christmas break and refocus ready to go again in the new year. We are not done yet.”
