Mayfield School 57 – 97 New City College
- Updated: February 4, 2020
Mayfield Basketball Academy finish the regular season on a loss to New City College, 57-97.
The game would begin with both teams going back and forth trading baskets, with both teams breaking down each other’s defence. The first quarter would finish tied (20-20) New City would then up their defensive pressure and cause Mayfield a number of turnovers which would convert to fast break scores for the away side. Mayfield were unable to adjust to the full court press which would see New City pull away with the lead. Half time score (33-50)
The third quarter would see no change from the away side as they continued to apply the pressure, Mayfield were unable to reduce the turnovers and would allow New City to continue to build on their lead. Mayfield would struggle in the fourth quarter with minimal opportunities to score. The game would finish with New City on top (57-97)
Coach Donnie said after the game “Today was tough, we knew that New City would press us all game and we dealt with it in the first quarter very well. Once we let New City take a little lead, everyone started to do their own thing and come away from what was working. This just became a constant negative spiral. Credit to New City they are well structured, play with great energy and get good looks on offence most of the game. I wish them good luck in the playoffs they will be a tough team to beat.”
