Mayfield School 70-105 Haringey Sixth Form College

Mayfield Basketball Academy go 7-7 for the season after being defeated by reigning champions Haringey Sixth Form 70-105.

Mayfield would begin the game slowly and lacked energy on both offence and defence, allowing the pressure of Haringey to cause many turnovers which converted into easy offence. Haringey would finish the first quarter up 15-32. The second quarter was a little improvement for Mayfield as they caused Haringey to get into a little foul trouble, putting two of their starters on the bench. Mayfield were unable to capitalise on this and found themselves down 33-50 at half time.

The third quarter was no different with Haringey constantly on the attack. Mayfield were unable to find offensive rhythm and unable to break down the Haringey defensive press. The fourth quarter would see Haringey close out the game in the same way, with guards A. Distras and O. Young piling on the points. The game would finish with Haringey on top (70-105)

Coach Donnie said after the game: “Today was one of our poorest performances, we were unable to get out of first gear as a team. Shout out to H. Nadeem today as he had a great shooting performance off the bench but one person is not going to win us games, everyone needs to step up. Credit to Haringey, they are a great example of energy and effort and they constantly force you into errors with their defensive pressure. I wish them luck for the rest of the season.”

Mayfield will host Moulton next week as Haringey will host league leaders New City.
