Long Road Sixth Form 72-58 Moulton College

Long Road Lions got there third win of the season coming out 72 – 58 winners against Moulton college. The Long Road big man Karl Holmes had a dominant performance with an impressive double double of 25pts and 22 Rebounds including 3 blocks to lead the Cambridge Academy to victory

The game started with both teams looking a little nervy as the importance of this result was evident to both sets of players. The Cambridge Academy then began to push out an early advantage in the middle of the 1st quarter and pushed out to an early 24 – 14 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Second quarter saw the Long Road team increase their lead with a 10 – 0 run with some excellent defence and meat they were able to get out in transition and get some easy scores. Long Road were up 38- 20 at the break.

At the start of the third quarter however Moulton came out with greater energy and started to cause Long Road problems on both ends of the floor. Moulton were able to generate some turnovers themselves leading to easy transition baskets and reduced the deficit to 11 pts going into the fourth down 54 – 43.

The fourth quarter was a scrappy affair but Long Road managed to re-establish some control at the start of it with an 8-2 run that created some separation again. Karl Holmes dominating the quarter with 12pts of his game high 25 points coming in the quarter. Long Road pushing through to the 72- 58 win.

“This was a good win for us,” said coach Pete Charlwood after the game.

“The boys deserve a lot of credit for keeping the composure in what was a chippy game that clearly meant a lot to both sides.

“Credit to Moulton for their effort today and resilience to stay in the game, but from our point of view I’m a little disappointed with our 3rd quarter which nearly gave Moulton the opportunity to make life very uncomfortable.

“We still have a lot to learn and we need to be more ruthless and efficient on offence, however I was pleased with our defence today.”

Another impressive performance from Dan Batcheler who supported Karl Holmes adding another 20pt game to his list of impressive scoring outputs this season. He also added 6 assists. Tash Chawira chipped in 14pts.

Ntumba continues to prove that he is one of the tougher covers in the East conference with another 21 pt performance and 9 Rebounds whilst J. Jack added 18pts and 19 Rebounds for an impressive double double.

Long Road next week will travel to County Upper Academy for the final game before the Christmas Break.
