Long Road Sixth Form College v Loughborough College

Long Road Lions welcomed Loughborough College this week in the ABL Central for their final game of the season which was a highly contested game from start to finish with Loughborough coming out on top 67 – 54.

The game started with a frantic pace however the lions struggled to score the ball which enabled Loughborough to get out to an early 10 – 1 lead, the lions managed to get going behind 6 points from M. Gillings but a couple of threes late on saw Loughborough finish the quarter with a 12 point lead 24 – 12. The second quarter the lions got off to a 6-2 run and managed to keep Loughborough to a 9 point quarter winning the quarter 14- 9 and cutting the lead to 7pts at the half way stage down 33 – 26

After early exchanges in the third quarter Loughborough upped their defensive intensity and caused the lions to turn the ball over leading to some easy fast break opportunities and they pushed the lead out to 16, however a late 4-0 run by the lions meant they were still in touching distance going into the 4th quarter down 12, 51-39

A strong start to the 4th quarter saw Loughborough’s lead cut to 7 points and it looked like Long Road had the momentum going into the final stages of the game however Loughborough finished the game strongly to take the win 67- 54.

Coach Charlwood said, “Other than the 1st quarter we played a pretty solid game but overall we made too many errors particularly on the offensive end with too many crucial turnovers. We had opportunities today but weren’t able to execute the final pass or finish.”

Top scorers in the game were A. Meade-Bamble with 26pts for Loughborough and M. Gillings led the way for Long Road with 16pts.
