Leyton Sixth Form College vs The College of Haringey, Enfield & North East London

The Leyton Sixth Form College Lions suffered a home defeat at the hands of CoHENEL on Wednesday 17 October, going down 43-73.

CoHENEL applied pressure in the first quarter that saw Leyton struggle to get into the game, as the home side went into the first quarter break down 4-20. Although Leyton regathered some composure, CoHENEL maintained their solid lead throughout. While the Lions managed to narrow the deficit somewhat on multiple occasions, CoHENEL proved too strong on the day and ran out as comfortable winners.

The top scorer for the visitors was Rupert Burnett, who poured in 23, with 15 points coming from outside the paint. Emmanuel Omosyama also hit double figures, contributing 10 points to the CoHENEL total. Meanwhile, Chima Obikwelu led Leyton with 11 points in the loss.

Leyton Lions Coach Dave Lavinier was disappointed with the result, but took some positives from his side’s performance, “CoHENEL played an aggressive press, making us work hard for every point. Their energy levels were impressive throughout, and we just didn’t match their intensity or desire. We did well to recover from a slow start, and there are lots of learning points to take away from the game.”

Leyton will return to ABL action after the half-term break, as they host St Thomas the Apostle College, while CoHENEL will host VI6 Colchester Colleges.
