Leyton Sixth Form College vs St Thomas the Apostle College

Leyton Sixth Form College Lions made a miraculous recovery in front of a home crowd on Wednesday afternoon to defeat St Thomas the Apostle College by a single point, 70-69.

The visitors applied heavy pressure early on and maintained the lead throughout the first half as Leyton went in to the half-time break 14 points adrift. A strong fight back in the third quarter brought the hosts back into contention as they took the lead for the first time in the fourth quarter, with just one minute left on the clock. The home side maintained composure, seeing out the game in front of a raucous home crowd.

Pouring in 30 points, the top scorer for the hosts was Chima Obikwelu, with Jawaad Kawoya also making a big contribution with 19. Rawle Allicock top scored for the visitors with 31 points, with 18 of his points coming from outside of the paint.

Leyton Lions Coach Dave Lavinier was extremely satisfied with the performance, “It was a fairly evenly contested contest and they put a lot of pressure on us early on. We no doubt benefited from the home support in the latter stages of the game, but did well to stay composed and focused to take the win.”

Leyton are on the road next week as they take on The North School, while STAC host CoHENEL.
