Leyton Sixth Form College vs Haringey Sixth Form College

The Leyton Sixth Form College Lions suffered a tough 38-73 home defeat against Haringey Sixth Form College in their final fixture of 2018 on Wednesday 19 December.

Having suffered a significant defeat at the hands of Haringey in both teams’ first outing of the ABL season, Leyton knew they would have to dig deep in this game. After a fairly evenly contested first quarter, Haringey stepped up their efforts and pulled away from the hosts to secure a commanding victory to continue their unbeaten run in the ABL Eastern Conference.

Chima Obikwelu was on fantastic form for the hosts, contributing over half of the Lions’ total, as he paced his squad with 20 points. For the visitors, Alexander Distras led the scoring with 25 points, as he found ways to score freely on the perimeter.

Leyton Coach Dave Lavinier was disappointed with the loss, but happy with the improved performance, “We knew this game would be tough. Haringey’s record for the season speaks for itself, but we can take lots of positives from the game, including some great individual performances.”

Both teams will be back in action in the New Year, when Leyton travel to the John Roan School and Haringey play host to St Thomas the Apostle College.
