Leyton Sixth Form College v VI6 Colchester Colleges

The LSC Lions had a good final league outing at home to V16 Colchester Colleges on Wednesday 6th March, with the visitors taking the points.

After a fairly evenly contested first quarter, LSC went into the first break with a narrow lead 14-11. Colchester turned on the gas in the second quarter scoring 20 points, 12 from outside of the paint, with LSC scoring only 3 in reply. At the end of the first half, Colchester looked to be in total control of the game, but LSC came out fighting and clawed the game back to be within a 5 point margin going into the last 2 minutes. Colchester soaked up the pressure and closed out the game for a 50-57 win.

Colchester limited the LSC season’s top scorer, Chima Obikwelu to 13 points. David Adewale also hit double figures for LSC with his 12 points all coming from outside of the paint, and Mukhtar Adelakun also contributed 12 points. Top scoring for Colchester were Dylan Beaird (19) and Josh Green (18).

LSC Lions coach, Dave Lavinier, was pleased with the display from the LSC Lions, but disappointed with the costly lapse in concentration in the second quarter: “The guys played some good basketball, and it feels as though we have got some momentum over the past few weeks, so timings wise, it’s a shame that we’re now at the season’s end. But credit to Colchester, they were a professional outfit and it was a good battle.”

Both teams now look to build over the off-season as V16 Colchester Colleges finish the league campaign in 4th and LSC in 8th.
