Leyton Sixth Form College 57-61 Mayfield School

Mayfield came into this match having given Essex Rebels a close game in the previous game week, whereas Leyton Sixth Form College (LSC) were subjected to a 60 point loss to Haringey. However, as the game went on it was clear that form was out the window, and it was a match that would go the distance.

Agintas got LSC off to a flying start, by scoring a number of threes in the first quarter, however Mayfield hit back quickly, with Anthony keeping Mayfield on top at the first buzzer (16-24). Mayfield defended extremely well, denying LSC any space under the basket, and restricting them to long range attempts.

Valiant defending from Adelakun restricted the number of lay ups available to Mayfield, however the visitors were consistently dispatching their free throws, which propelled them into the lead. Jacobs was particularly calm under pressure, and made 100% of his free throws. This meant that Mayfield went into the second half 34-33 up.

During the 3rd quarter LSC seemed to lose focus, and allowed Mayfield to pull away. Jolaoluwa made a number of impressive lay ups, to take Mayfield 13 points up. A late resurgence from Adelakun and Agintas meant that going into the final quarter, LSC trailed by 10 points.

Adelakun carried his fine form into the final quarter, scoring 8 points in 3 minutes, giving LSC a lifeline. However, the home side will rue their missed free throws, missing 7 in total during the match. Jolaoluwa kept his nerve in the final seconds of the match to put the game beyond doubt, converting 1 of his 2 free throws.
