John Roan School v Havering Sixth Form College

John Roan School were in action again this week with a massive 109-59 victory vs. Havering Sixth Form.

JR came out strong defensively in the first 3 minutes, jumping out to a 14-3  lead with a strong press and easy layups. However, Havering would not be kept at bay for long as they went on the offensive to get several stops of their own and converting on the opposite end. This would be the trend throughout the first half and led to a tightly contested first half.

The second half was a different ball game though as John Roan came out strong on both ends, converting from several spots on the floor and taking advantage of several fast break opportunities. That effort enabled the hosts to build up two 33-point quarters, more than enough to see John Roan put the game beyond doubt.

JR were led by James Aboaba who finished with 28 points and said of his team: “Defence was the main aim today, shutting down our opposition and exploiting mismatches throughout the game”

Coach Courtney Va-Beest mirrored this sentiment and stated: “When we play solid defence, we’re tough to beat and that means the boys committing to working as a team and getting the job done. Getting everyone on the score board was huge for us today and hopefully it’s helped the boy’s confidence”

Havering were lead by Donovan Wright (16) and Seyi Emida (13).

John Roan School will face off against VI6 Colchester College next week, while Havering will play Leyton Sixth Form on the 27th.
