John Leggott College vs Queen Ethelburga College

John Leggott College hosted Queen Ethelburga’s on Thursday evening in a rearranged fixture in which the visiting QE team came away with a 99-72 victory.

In what was a closer game than the final score would suggest, QE finally put some distance between themselves and JLC in the latter stages. With a narrow 3 point lead heading into the final quarter, a 19-0 run in the middle of the quarter put the game beyond all doubt. Elijah Walsh and Tommy Skelton did most of the damage for QE with 32 and 23 respectively while Matt Melady led the way for JLC with 20 points while Elliot Kerley had 18.

“I think our performance was again an improvement and we’re definitely making strides towards where we want to be. To be in the game going into the 4th quarter against a team with some really talented players who are receiving national recognition shows that we have come pretty far from our first meeting with them last year,” commented JLC Coach Ross Stafford.

“Coach Metcalf got his rotations spot on and he has QE playing some really good basketball, both teams have some very talented young players and I’m looking forward to matching up against them again soon.”

Other scorers of note in the game included Wadah Hassan with 15 for JLC and Teilo Kelly with 14 for QE.

JLC are due to welcome Archbishop Beck next Wednesday 6th February. QE will travel to Allerton High School on Thursday 14th February in Leeds.
