Havering Sixth Form College 89 – 81 County Upper School

Havering College in what was a very high tempo game managed to defend home court in this exciting week 16 contest with a 89-81 victory against County Upper.

The 1st Period was a close affair but a strong 11-2 run midway saw Havering take the lead with both teams going at each other offensively Havering managed to end the period up by 5 with the score at 20-15.

The 2nd period was just as close but County Upper were able to go on a 15-4 run getting to the foul line consistently due to some poor transition defence from Havering. Havering managed to go into the break up by 3 points with the score at 45 – 42 thanks to some great ball movement and a buzzer beating 3 point finish from Tyler hope.

The third period played out similar to the first half with end to end action from both teams County Upper continuing to be effective in transition and Havering making some strong finishes in the paint and crucial scores from outside the 3 point arc. The third period ended with havering up by 7 with the score at 73-66.

In the end the game was to be decided by some crucial offensive and defensive rebounds from Kelson Mitchell who also managed to get to the freethrow line on multiple occasions and set up the final score of the game with a great outlet pass to Bhavik Kalia who layed it in with ease to take the game 89-81.

Havering Sixth Form Head Coach Damien Plummer said: “County Upper played with great energy and we struggled to contain them in transition. But we stuck together and scored in crucial situations and got some important stops in the final period. credit must go to County Upper who really put us under pressure for the whole game.”

Samuel Roe finished on a game high 25 points, Tyler Hope 17 and Kelson Mitchell on 13 for Havering, whilst County Upper were led by a Team high 24points from T Revell, 17 from T Roberts and 16 from C Poolton.

In game week 17, County Upper have a week off and Havering will be on the road to Moulton.
