Haringey Sixth Form 178 v 38 Havering Sixth Form

Defending champions Haringey Sixth Form College had their ABL season opener on Wednesday at home, where they matched up against Havering Sixth Form, who were looking to add another win after coming off of a strong 94 – 71 win against Layton.

It was clear Haringey wanted to remind the league why they are champions as they set the tone right from the start with intense defensive pressure which lead to multiple steals, fast break points and open three point shots. This continued into the second quarter too which featured many highlight dunks and great ball movement from Haringey, ending the half with a staggering 116 to 18 lead.

Despite a final push from Havering, who scored more in the second half than the first, the second half saw Haringey remain in control winning the game 178 – 38 (the highest score from any team in the ABL and EABL so far this season). A strong all round team effort from Haringey saw 6 of their players finish in double digits: Distras (31), Harding (28), Young (30), Bautista (23), Newbury (27) and Mawutor (22). Whilst Haverings Lipyeat lead his team with 12 points.

Alex Distras who finished as top scorer with 31 points for Haringey had this to say about the game “Overall it was a good game and we came out wanting to start the season strong and work on what we’ve been doing the past few weeks in practice. We hope to continue this momentum going into next game.”

Haringey take on Colchester for their next game, whilst Havering will try to bounce back against Mayfield School.
