Haringey Sixth Form College 110 v 44 Essex Rebels (Vi6 Colchester)

Yesterday’s second game of the season for Haringey Sixth Form College saw them match up against Essex Rebels (Colchester). Both teams were coming off convincing wins against previous opponents (Essex 105 – 36 Leyton and Haringey 178 – 38 Havering) and looked to continue their momentum.

The game started off close with both teams playing tough defence throughout, and back and forth scoring. Essex looked determined to give the defending champions a competitive game, the first quarter ended 22 – 21. However that soon changed as Haringey turned up the intensity of their defence, forcing multiple turnovers and taking advantage of fast-break opportunities. This gave them a comfortable 47 – 25 lead at halftime.

Essex tried to bounce back from a difficult end to the first half but Haringey were too much to handle as they maintained their fast pace and dominating defence, holding Essex to only 19 total points in the second half, going on to win the game with a final score of 110 – 44.

Andreas Vella (guard) had this to say after the game: “I feel as though it was a good team win. Everyone contributed well and had an impact on the final score, which is our aim every game”.

Leading scorers for Haringey were Ndewedo Newbury with 28 points, Owen Young had 25 points and Richmond Mawutor added 24 points. Whilst Essex was led by D. Ojo who had 12 points.

Essex will go on to play Mayfield School at home next week while Haringey will be on the road to take on Leyton Sixth Form College.
