Essex Rebels 124 v 54 Moulton College

The ABL season kicked off for the Rebels Basketball Academy as visitors Moulton College travelled down to the Essex Sports Arena. 

The first quarter saw the Rebels get off to a great start on both ends of the floor, up 17-5 in the first 3 minutes of play. Tough defensive pressure paved the way for the Rebels, who forced 12 turnovers and managed to score 45 points in the opening quarter. Moulton was able to get to the line multiple times but were unable to convert, ending the first ten minutes with 16 points. 

The second quarter saw no difference in the pace of the Rebels, who once again filled the stat sheet, scoring 29 points and kept their opponents to 14, to end the half 74-30. Moulton College battled hard throughout, making some great moves to the basket, and forcing 8 turnovers. The end of the half saw the Rebels lead the rebounding battle (26-18), share the basketball with 13 assists, and cause 30 turnovers.

Moulton College entered the second half with renewed energy, forcing three quick Rebel turnovers, and scoring 8 straight points. Momentum seemed to continue in Moulton’s favour, until the Rebels found some quick points off turnovers and the quarter ended with the Rebels outscoring Moulton 22-17. 

The final ten minutes of the game saw the Rebels finish out the game strong, scoring 17 points in five minutes and holding Moulton to 3. Moulton College finished the game with toughness, out-rebounding the Rebels for the quarter and forcing 5 turnovers. Rebels saw no need to panic however, as their comfortable lead held as the game finished in favour of the Colchester side 124-54. Final game stats had the Rebels out-rebounding Moulton 50-34 and causing 37 turnovers.
