Essex Rebels (Vi6 Colchester) 98 – 74 Havering Sixth Form College

The Essex Rebels Academy returned to the floor this Wednesday afternoon to take on Havering College in an ABL clash that saw the Rebels enter the game with a record of 4-2 and Havering at 3-4. This was the first game back for the Rebels who had just returned to the UK after a week-long trip to America where they played two friendlies, grabbing this one with a final score of 98-74.

The first quarter went back and forth between the two teams with neither one quite finding their rhythm. However, a scoring flurry by Riley Taylor who knocked down 3 straight 3s to give the Rebels the edge going into the second quarter. From that point on the Rebels didn’t look back for the rest of the half, grabbing 18 rebounds and causing 15 Havering turnovers, to enter the half up 50-32.

The third quarter saw much the same from the Rebels who consistently scored 25 points for the third straight quarter but committed 10 turnovers. Sloppy play and intense defence from Havering saw the visitors have their best quarter of the game, dropping 29 points to bring them to within 14 entering the 4th.

However, the momentum swing in Havering’s favour seemed to halt there as the Rebels came out and ended the game early in the fourth by going on a 23-13 run for the quarter. The final score ended in favour of the Rebels 98-74, updating their record to 5-2 and sitting in second place, while Havering moved to 3-5 and 6th in the table.
