Erith School vs Northfleet Technology College

Erith played their first game of 2018 at home against Northfleet winning a fierce contest 68-55 in the ABL South East Division.

Michael Adebayo led the way with 20 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 9 steals with Anthony TJ Hibbert adding 14 points along with 17 rebounds.

The game was a close contest throughout with both teams coming out of the gates playing hard aggressively. Erith struggled with missed layups and sloppy play, but ended the first quarter with a 15-9 lead.

Northfleet composed themselves in the second quarter and converted on multiple layups and steals to take the advantage, but eventually Erith moved back ahead at 26-24.

The game was a tight contest throughout with Erith playing scrappy basketball at times, missing easy baskets and making silly turn-overs.

In the final quarter, Erith made some good defensive stops, made a few outside shots, and converted at the rim and this was the difference in the end as they narrowly secured the win.

Coach Bucknall said: “Northfleet definitely caused us a lot of problems from the tip-off. In the end, we showed greater desire and commitment to grab the win at home. We need to shake of the New Year blues.”

Northfleet were well prepared and organised both offensively and defensibly against the bigger Erith team. Joel Moore was the standout with 17 points and 18 rebounds in defeat.

Erith are away in the ABL to North School next Wednesday in a top of the table clash.
