Mayfield School 70-61 County Upper College

Mayfield Basketball Academy go 6-3 in ABL East after beating County Upper in Game week 12.

Mayfield began the game with high tempo on defence and offence causing County Upper many turnovers and was able to take a 21-11 lead after the 1st quarter. County Upper soon found their feet and began to put on the pressure whilst Mayfield rotated through their bench unit giving the starters an extended rest. County upper were able to keep the gap at 10 points going into half time, Mayfield leading 40-30.

The second half saw an offensive takeover from Hamza Nadeem off the bench, but County Upper refused to back down and continued to keep the game close. County Upper were aggressive on the boards which led to quick scores on the other end. A final push from the away side was a little too late, which meant Mayfield would finish on top.

Coach Donnie said after the game “We enjoyed the performance today, it was not perfect but it was great to see the bench unit get a good run out. Star of the show was Hamza Nadeem after scoring 20 points off the bench to lead the team, just shows that his hard work in practice is paying off. County Upper were great on the boards today and we will need to fix that for the reverse fixture. This group are a joy to coach, looking forward to where we can go from here.”
