College of Haringey, Enfield & North East London vs John Roan School

CoHENEL welcomed the John Roan School for a Week 9 match-up in the ABL Eastern Conference. The visitors emerged victorious on the day with a 90-93 overtime win.

From the opening quarter the game had the making of an exciting contest. A back-and-forth first period saw the visitors lead by two after ten minutes, with neither team able to maintain their momentum. The second quarter saw CoHENEL gather some momentum as they tried to to take a hold of the game, pulling away for an eight points half-time lead.

The third quarter saw a repeat of the first, with more back-and-forth action. Very little changed on the scoreboard between the teams, as CoHENEL maintained their eight point advantage heading into the final stanza.

The John Roan School started to make a run in the fourth quarter as they gained some momentum which saw them get back into the game – control proceedings down the stretch. Some sloppy play from CoHENEL in the fourth quarter didn’t help their case, as costly turnovers helped John Roan force the game into overtime and eventually take the win.

CoHENEL Coach AJ Roberts offered his thoughts, “Credit to the John Roan school for battling throughout the whole game. We gave this game away and it’s a great learning lesson for us. We will continue to work and get better!”

The John Roan win was paced by 27 points from Lanre Ayinla, as Seal Osajivbe supported with 18 and Sean Babalola added 14. Rupert Burnett finished with 24 points to lead CoHENEL, as Andrew Konadu chipped in 21 and Blessing Makanda contribued 12.
