Aston Manor Academy vs Gateway College

Aston Manor saw out a perfect 14-0 finish to the regular season with a 107-71 defeat over Gateway College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Manor had six players in double figure scoring, lead by Abdullahi Farah who went 8-10  from the three point line on hisway to a team high 27 points. Gateway had a bright start with Mutemajiri (32 points) showing that would be a handful for the Aston Manor defence with 9 of his teams 23 points coming in the first quarter. It took some time for Aston Manor to get into their stride but after five first half 3 pointers from Farah, Aston Manor went into the half term break 60-41 in front.

The home side tightened the screws on defense in the third quarter, only allowing Gateway to score 4 points while scoring 34 of their own. The fourth quarter belonged to Gateway however, as they battled to see out the game to make the score respectable.

“We are pleased to finish the regular season with a win,” said Head Coach Curtis Xavier. “Although we struggled at times, the game represented what has happened a few times this season with the visitors starting really well and we getting stronger as the game goes by. There were some really pleasing performances from individuals and places we didn’t expect and we are now looking forward to an exciting playoffs.”

Akol Ring had another solid game with 19 points and 21 rebounds with Omari Smith adding 15 points. Osman had 17 for the visitors and Brooke’s chipped in with 14.

Aston Manor now wait to see who their opponent will be in the first round of the playoffs and Gateway will see out their season against away next week to County Upper.
