Aston Manor Academy 80 -54 Loughborough College

Aston Manor got back to winning ways with a clinical defeat of Loughborough College on Wednesday afternoon with Diogo Mendes leading all scorers with 19 points.

The game started with both teams trying to establish a foothold and more or less traded baskets with Aston Manor taking a slight 16-13 lead at the end of the first but the home side upped their defensive pressure to limit Loughborough to only 4 points in the second period with Akol Ring and Mendes scoring freely.

Loughborough College were much stronger in the third with Gentilcore scoring 9 of his 12 points behind some great defensive play. Ethan Dameflun also started to find his flow with some creative offensive moves.

In the final stanza, Aston Manor reestablished the defensive pressure with some full court pressure and saw out the game by giving some of the fringe players some court time.

“A really good response to a difficult loss last week” said Head Coach Curtis Xavier. “ we established our defensive early with fuelled our game. We committed to the intensity required to play at a high level and were rewarded for it. Also, congratulations to Ben Woog on making his long awaited debut”

Akol Ring scored 15 points to back up Mendes with Frank Madubuko scoring 10 points along with a team high 8 rebounds. Dylan Lester had 13 points and Ben Woog also chipped in with 10 points on 100% shooting. Ethan Dameflun had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the visitors with Farrington adding 9 points.

Aston Manor now play Hartlepool Sixth Form College away on 8th January with Loughborough College looking to bounce back at home to Archbishop Beck.
