Archbishop Beck Sports College vs Allerton High School

Archbishop Beck Sports College hosted Allerton High School in a highly anticipated top of the table clash; a rare Tuesday night match-up to replay a postponed fixture. Unfortunately Allerton had been hit with key injuries to a couple of their starters, which saw Beck jump on them quickly and never let up on their way to a 30 point victory.

Bailey England and his 27.0ppg scoring average were sorely missed for Allerton as the hosts jumped out to a 30-15 dominant first quarter. Arch Beck had a well-rounded scoring output as Dante Sofia had 10 points in the quarter, Phil Deveney with eight, Arron Howard with six and James Ward with five.

Allerton kept on fighting and pressed for most of the game, with Harry Resendez having a huge game for the visitors – scoring 19 first half points. Resendez shot 25 free throws for the game, on his way to leading all scorers with 44 points.

The second quarter saw Arch Beck continuing to press the visitors and capitalise to convert 27 points in the period. The score-line at half-time saw the hosts leading 57-35.

The second half started strongly for the visitors, who turned up their defensive intensity and managed to score 24 points in the third, led by Resendez’ 15 points – mainly earned at the charity stripe.

The start of the fourth quarter saw Beck holding a 27 point lead, able to play all 12 players down the stretch. However, Allerton never gave up and continued their efforts to press for the entire game.

The final score was 111-81 to the hosts, who extended their unbeaten start to three games after a disrupted schedule to start the season.

Arch Beck Coach Delme Herriman said, “It is tough to find consistency when our last league game was seven weeks ago, but we had a great cup challenge against reigning AoC Premier Cup champions Myerscough, eventually losing by just 17 points. We are glad to have put on a solid performance and look forward to playing two games next week; hopefully going into the new-year undefeated.”

Arch Beck were led in scoring by Dante Sofia’s 31 points, while Phil Deveney chipped in 28 and James Ward had 15. Meanwhile, Allerton’s Harry Resendez scored a huge 44 points – with half of them coming at the foul line. Jake Aldridge supported with 19.

Arch Beck next take to the floor when they face John Leggott College at home on Tuesday 11 Decemeber, before travelling to local rivals Carmel College on Wednesday 12 December. Allerton are straight back into action on Wednesday 5 December when they visit Carmel College.
