Archbishop Beck College vs Carmel College

This was the third meeting of the season between these two Merseyside local rivals, with Archbishop Beck convincingly winning on all three occasions.

This latest match-up saw Beck put in a solid team performance and pull off an 86-57 point victory, behind 31 points and 15 rebounds from former 2 time ABL player of the week, Phil Deveney. The visitors were once again hampered without their star player Fin Moss who has an unfortunate serious ankle injury which will keep him out the rest of the season. The opening quarter saw Archbishop Beck jump on the visitors early to take a 28-11 lead with Deveney scoring 11 himself in the period. Arron Howard provided a spark off the bench with 3 steals in a row leading to easy fast breaks for the hosts. Some nice outside shooting by Carmel’s big man Evans kept them from a complete blow-out, but a solid team performance from Beck saw them lead 52-29 at the half.

The third and fourth quarters were closer, with Beck leading 17-14 in both quarters. Carmel’s big man Evans continued to dominate from the outside with some excellent shooting touch, giving him 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds and 4 blocks. With a comfortable 20 point plus cushion, Beck could run their entire 12 man bench and give everyone valuable court time. Beck shared the ball well which resulted in 26 assists to go with 21 steals. The final result was 86-57 with Carmel suffering 27 turnovers to Becks 19.

For Archbishop Beck, Deveney led with 31 points and 15 rebounds, whilst Howard had 12 poits and  5 steals, and Dalton added 12 points and 7 assists. Ward also had a strong performance across the board with 7pts (8 assists, 8 rebounds and 5 steals). Carmel were led by Evans’s 20pts, 11rebounds & 4 blocks, whilst Shepherd chipped in 15.

Archbishop Beck conclude their regular season trying to go undefeated at home against 2nd placed QE college, and Carmel have a couple of postponed fixtures to play.
