Archbishop Beck College vs Allerton High School

The ABL Conference North continued with Archbishop Beck of Liverpool visiting City of Leeds Basketball Academy (Allerton HS).

The opening two quarters would set the tone with Archbishop Beck employing their trade mark zone defence forcing Allerton, with no real interior presence and a lack of consistency from the perimeter, searching for ideas.  When the Leeds outfit applied themselves in the half court defensively, the ensuing transitions looked promising.  Coach Delme Herriman’s team stuck to task and pounded the ball inside exploiting mismatches in several positions and further capitalizing on unforced errors and poor decision making.

Archbishop Beck would go in to the half with an 18 point lead  on the back of an impressive 34 point half from Deveney, the culmination of a rampant team first-half performance. The battle would continue into the second half with Leeds making some adjustments but unfortunately they could not stem the tide, as the 3rd and 4th quarters would go in the favour of the team who had travelled over the Pennines.

Deveney remained relentless and would close the fixture with 48 points personalable supported by Dalton (16),Graham (13) and sofia (13). The Allerton team would see legitimate scoring output from Harry Resendez (32) with Bailey England contributing (12) and Jake Aldridge (11).

Coach Newby articulated his thoughts on the game saying, “All Credit goes to Coach Herriman and his team they are tough and uncompromising in their approach and they capitalized in every aspect of the game. They dominated us on any aspect 50 / 50, loose balls, rebounding and rips, this to the coach as well as the attitude and aptitude of the players.  Reflecting on our performance, we were a little undermanned but our individual and team defence was equally poor and not a true reflection of our teams ability, we lacked effort resilience and resolve today.”

The Allerton HS based program will close out their season against Cheshire South and West, Carmel College and QE of York whilst Arch Bishop Beck will be aiming to close in on a perfect season against, John Leggott, QE of York which could determine the title looking at the form and Carmel College.
