Archbishop Beck Catholic Sports College 88 – 75 Hartlepool Sixth Form College

Archbishop Beck found themselves with a rare home fixture as their previous three games had been postponed and before that had played on the road in the previous 4 fixtures.

Archies wanted to put on a much better showing than the one they produced away in Hartlepool the last time, where they were totally dominated by a well drilled team and had no answers for the 6’6” inside duo of Daniel Kelsey and Killian Bousfield.

With both of Archies 6’5” Centers unable to play again against Hartlepool, it was going to be a huge task for the home team. With that being said Archies came out and played some solid basketball and pressed the visitors from the start causing them serious problems.

First quarter, 22-18 to the home team with Liam Burgess scoring 9 for Archies.

The second quarter was a much higher scoring affair with both teams playing some great basketball. Burgess extended his scoring spree with another 10 points giving him 19 for the half.

Hartlepool had a balanced scoring output led by Kelsey with 10.

Archies took the quarter 26-25, giving them a five point lead at half-time 48-43.

The third quarter saw the dominance of Bousfield, scoring 18 points in the quarter. The home team had no answer to his height and skill and Hartlepool took the 3rd by 28-15.

Heading into the final quarter 8 points down, Beck had an uphill battle and had to play a near perfect ten minutes in order to get their first win. However a series of clumsy turnovers one after the other put the game out of reach.

Bousfield finished off an outstanding 2nd half performance with another 10 points in the final quarter, giving him 33 points and 16 boards for the afternoon. Whilst Liam Burgess led Beck with 28 points, by far his best performance so far.

Hartlepool ran out eventual winners 88-75.

Quote; “Even playing without our two bigs we competed really well. It was very disappointing as we played extremely well, especially with our press which led to many baskets, to then throw it away and commit 9 turnovers in the final quarter!”

“Killian Bousfield stepped up in the second half and dominated the game to lead them to victory”
