Player of the Week: Ryan Anglin

Ryan Anglin has been awarded the ABL Player of the Week after his 23 point 10 rebound double-double gave his Aston Manor side the edge in a hard fought 68-65 home win over Stoke on Trent College last week.

After losing the first quarter and seeing his teammate Conroy Hayden go down with an ankle injury, Anglin stepped up to be a key influencer in the game, kick starting a 12-4 run in the second quarter to lead Aston Manor to a brief 28-25 lead. After a key timeout from Coach Jamison, Stoke responded with some strong play of their own with Bailey Guant scoring 7 of the final 9 points to put Stoke up 36-39 at the half. In the second half, saw both sides traded baskets but a quick score from Anglin in the fourth put Aston up by 3 to give the home side just enough breathing space to see the game end in their favour.

“I am very delighted to be awarded the ABL Player of the Week,” said Ryan. “After my teammate got injured early in the game, I knew I had to step up if we wanted to get the win against Stoke. I’ve been putting a lot of work in on and off the court and I’m glad to see that it is starting to pay off with my performances on the court.”

Head Coach Curtis Xavier commented: “It was an outstanding effort from Ryan. Especially on the defensive end and I’m sure that he will grow in confidence as a result from the recognition of this performance.”
