ABL Final Four Recap

Stoke on Trent College will take on Alec Reed Academy in the Championship Final after both teams came through their Final Four matchups last week.

Stoke [N1] vs County Upper [C1]

Stoke inflicted a first loss on County Upper this season after edging out a thrilling semi-final encounter, 65-64.

Ben Tew and Michael Jara both scored 14 points apiece to lead Stoke to victory as they head into the ABL Championship showdown.

“County Upper played well, but we lost focus in the second half,” said Stoke Head Coach Shawn Jamison. “We must be better in the Finals against Alec Reed.”

The visitors took the lead late in the fourth period before Theo Jarret’s lay-up in the dying seconds proved decisive with County Upper unable to answer as their unbeaten run was ended.

Stoke followed up post-season wins over Gateway and Raines as they made the most of home advantage.

Alec Reed [C2] vs St Charles [S1]

Alec Reed advanced to their first ABL final as they ended St Charles’ title defence with a 92-73 victory.

Victor Olarerin starred with a 27-point haul in the win with Elias Poorman adding 16 points and 9 rebounds, while Afra Khalil had 14 points.

The hosts poured in 56 points in the first half as they established a 16-point lead at the break and never looked back en route to victory.

“We knew it would not be an easy game but I’m really happy with our preparation to this game and how boys stepped up and dominated this game from beginning to the end,” said Head Coach Daniel Szatkowski.

“We have some work to do before next week final.”

Damarni Velinor had 21 points for St Charles as they missed out on the chance to head back to the ABL Championship final at Leicester Arena.
