Player of the Week: Themba Yabantu

Themba Yabantu has been named as the Player of the Week after leading Gateshead College to victory in Week 14.
The 1999-born guard scored 28 points and also added 14 rebounds in a 100-88 home success against top-four side Queen Ethelburga’s.
“I am very happy about being selected as Player of the Week as this is my first time ever,” he said.
“It shows my hard work to throughout the season is paying off and helping my team win.
“My role has increased within the team this year and I know that it is my responsibility to not only do the things that go on the stat-sheet, but be a leader as well.”
Head Coach Ian MacLeod added: “Themba is our most consistent performer, hands-down. He contributes in so many ways, 14 rebounds as a 5’9” guard is phenomenal.
“At one stage he was averaging nearly a triple-double for us. He has worked hard this year and the results are obvious, he is playing well at U23 level and is even practicing with our BBL team.
“I see good things for him in the future, if he keeps working hard to improve.”
Gateshead take on Tyne Met in their final game as they look to finish on a high.
