Player of the Week: Titas Zydelis

Titas Zydelis earned the latest Player of the Week award after his heroics helped secure a dramatic victory for Leyton in Week 7.

The 1999-born guard finished with 18 points and netted the game-winner to lead his side to a 47-45 home win against Three Rivers Academy.

“I am really proud of achieving this award as I put in a lot of hard work in training,” said Zydelis.

“The Three Rivers side were really strong, but we just had to hold our nerve to the end to come out with the win. This award was achieved through the great team I am a part of, as they are supportive and really trust in me which builds strong team bonds.

“We are aiming to secure a spot in the playoffs in a very competitive league. I have to thank Coach David who brought me to this academy at Leyton. He has high expectations and faith in me which was demonstrated when he allowed me take the winning shot against Three Rivers in a crucial moment, in a high pressure situation.

“Lastly, I’d like to thank the Leyton Sports department staff as they always watch our games when they can and do a lot of unseen work for the team.”

Head Coach,  added: “I am so pleased that Titas has been recognised as ABL Player of the Week – he has been an excellent role model as one of few second year players in the team this year, epitomising hard work and dedication.

“At the point in the Three Rivers game where we needed to make a 3 point shot, I knew if we could get the ball into Titas’ hands we’d stand a good chance.

“Credit to him, Titas was as calm as ever and finished off the play in his no-nonsense style.

“Titas’ influence has been significant this season, and I’ve been impressed with his progression. The team are working hard to make a playoff spot in what’s proving to be a tough league.”

Leyton improved to 3-2 with the win and are next scheduled to face Sir Robert Woodard Academy on the road.
